User:Hello Doctor, I have some questions regarding my daughter who is 18 days old
Doctor:sure, please proceed
User:During her sleep she keeps stretching ler arms and legs and make noises and tries to turn around
User:her stretching and noises continue for as long as 2 hours sometimes
User:Is this normal?
Doctor:Just like adults move about, during sleep, Young infants, brain is actually active during sleep , and is growing
User:and during this time..she does not feed as well
Doctor:and this is absolutely normal
Doctor:if the surroundings are colder and the baby is not warm, then also, it does such activities
Doctor:keep her warm, with blankets, and she will sleep soundly
User:ok..we ensure that she is warm during the sleep..but she kicks and slides away
Doctor:that is normal
Doctor:u need not worry about that
User:She feeds well for around 45 min at a stretch in the night...but during the day she feeds only for 10-15 min every 3 this pattern normal
User:and she falls asleep after 10-15 min of feeding
Doctor:yes, babies, if they are tired, then they need short time of feeds
User:and does not feed at all while she is sleeping
Doctor:there is no fixed time or duration of breast feeding
Doctor:breast feeding is to be done , only when awake
Doctor:and not during sleep
Doctor:the pattern is completely fine
User:she passes stool once every 24 hrs and she urinates 6-8 times in a this also fine for her age?
Doctor:yes, that is fine too
User:she also has issues with gas in her stomach...what can we do for this?
Doctor:as the feeding of babies is energy XXXXXXX , and not much of solids, the stools will be less than what the baby feeds
Doctor:you just need to burp her for 30 mins after every feeds
Doctor:since babies, swallow air during feeds, there will be collection of gas in the stomach
Doctor:hence they need to be burped
Doctor:You are welcome
