It's hard to believe that your little one is already nine months old. You may not have realized how quickly time has gone by. By now your baby must be trying to stand up with support for the first time. He/she might also be trying to take a few steps with the support of furniture. Make sure someone is with him/her all the time when she does this to catch him/her if he/she falls.

His/her concentration levels might also have increased and he/she will be paying attention to everything you say. He/she will also be able to understand a few simple phrases. He/she might also be making a few sounds which sound like words to you. Keep reading to your baby at night and don't be afraid to let him/her crawl around the house. It is important for him/her to get all the exercise he/she can as this helps your child's muscles develop.

Your child is due for a pediatric check up and the first dose of Measles vaccine.

Many babies in India contract infections causing loose motions via contaminated water or food. Extra precautions are always needed with a baby in the house. The infection can be from an external source or from someone in the house who has an infection. Babies are susceptible to infection because their immune systems are not yet fully developed.

1. Avoid giving the baby any food bought from outside.
2. Anyone at home, who has an upset stomach, should avoid handling the baby or the baby's items and food.
3. Keeping your child adequately hydrated is the most important thing to do.
4. Keep giving the child ORS [Oral Rehydration Solution] to ensure he/she does not get dehydrated.
5. If you feel your baby has not passed urine as often as he/she normally does, he/she could be dehydrated. If you have any doubts about this always consult your pediatrician immediately.
6. Your baby will require frequent nappy changes. Keep him/her clean and dry; otherwise he/she could get a nappy rash.
7. Your baby could also have vomiting. If the vomiting is bad and your baby is unable to keep feeds down, you should consult your pediatrician immediately.
8. If your baby has a fever as well, it is always safer to consult your pediatrician.
