Motion sickness also called kinetosis is a condition with characteristic features of dizziness, fatigue and vomiting which occurs due to perceiving of different signals by eye and vestibular system in the ears seen commonly while travelling in vehicles, airplanes and space ships

 

Tips for preventing motion sickness:

1. Avoid excessive alcohol and foods or liquids that have caused motion sickness or make you feel unusually full.

2. Heavy, spicy, or fat-rich foods may worsen motion sickness in some people so try to avoid these

3. Avoid strong food odors smelling or sensing them

4. While travelling choose a seat where there is least probability of experiencing motion sickness

5. Sit in the direction of travel not in opposite direction

6. Sit in the front seat of a vehicle which you are travelling

7. Do not read or write while traveling if you have experienced  motion sickness before

8. Keep your gaze fixed on the horizon or on a fixed point

9. Open a window or vent or source of fresh air if possible

10. Distraction of the attention while travelling like speaking or looking into something

11. Sit alone and try to discuss about motion sickness and looking into people who are vomiting should be avoided

12. In case of mild cases of motion sickness and before going for small trips over-the-counter medication can be a very effective preventive measure they are

  • Meclizine
  • Bonine
  • Antivert
  • Dramamine

13. In case of long travels patch containing scopolamine a transdermal patch that often is effective in preventing motion sickness
