Gianotti-Crosti Syndrome (Papular Acrodermatitis of Childhood)

The rashes appear as dull red spots which first develops on thighs and buttocks, than on th outer aspects of the arms and finally on face. The rashes are assymmetrical and measures about 5-10mm and are deep red in color. It is associated with itching. The rashes fades in 2-8 weeks with mild scaling.

Symptoms

• Fever.
• Enlargement of lymphnodes.
• Elnargement of liver and spleen.
• Pharyngeal erytnema.]
• Oropharyngeal ulcers or vesicles.
• Tonsillar swelling.

It is sometimes is associated with

• Hepatitis B infection.
• Epstein-Barr virus.
• Respiratory syncytial virus.
• Coxsackieviruses, echo viruse, enterovirus infection.
• Parainflunza virus
• Pox virus.
• Rota virus.
• Human immunodeficiency virus.

It is ussually reported to occur after vaccination of the following

• Hepatitis A virus.
• Hepatitis B virus.
• Measles, mumps, rubella,
• influenza virus,
• Oral polio virus,
• Japanese encephalitis.

Treatment

There is no specific treatment. Topical steroid cream is applied on rashes.
