Dengue fever is an acute febrile disease. It is also known as break bone fever. It belongs to the group flavi virus. Dengue is transmitted to the humans by the mosquito Aedes aegypti.

 

The mosquito flourishes during rainy seasons which will breed in water filled flower pots, plastic bags. Dengue fever is seen in persons with low immunity.

Signs and symptoms

  • Severe headache
  • Muscle pain
  • Joint pain
  • Leg pain
  • Low blood pressure
  • Fever
  • Rash
  • Petechiael rashes which appear first on the lower limbs and the chest
  • Lymphadenopathy
  • Gastritis
  • Abdominal pain
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Thrombocytopenia

Treatment of Dengue fever

  • Intravenous fluids
  • Platelet transfusion
  • Aspirin
  • Non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
